The Atonement Series

This Series is made through a return to the memory - from the places of childhood. In this memory there are also repressive elements, which carved out ways of life and thought, as we struggled with the sexist and heteronormative culture and the need to turn inwards. It is in this sense that these works were developed, not in the sense of solving or attacking, but by bringing the power of ambiguity, atonement and associated poetics, in an understanding of identity construction, in a delayed search to leave the marginal place in society.
This series recovers the power of images of repressive homosexual memory and intimacy content to celebrate, through the insistence of the pictorial gesture, the power of purification and harmony.
These paintings revolve with the themes of Repression and Sexuality, thus addressing the issue of gender, identity, freedom of love, sexual expression, and ecclesiastical rituals and models.
They contain a tension of what they may or may not represent, not only for the personal matter, almost of self-portrait, but also of the pleasure or pain that may exist in this representation.

The resulting images bear a quality of memory and depth, in a balance between figurative and abstraction, through suggestion and mystery, given by the effect of different layers and glazes.
